Ms. Shiver is very gifted in teaching students who have struggled in traditional classroom settings. She maintains an organized and structured setting with multi-sensory techniques in presenting lessons in reading, math, and writing. In addition, Ms. Shiver's gifting in the area of fine arts is obvious in her creative approaches to instruction.
Having taught in both private and public schools, she has distinguished herself as a leader many times. She was named Teacher of the Year at Central Carolina Christian School, has been trained in the Orton- Gillingham program for teaching students with dyslexia, and has been instrumental in the development of Hope Christian Academy since it's creation.
An active member of a local church, Ms. Shiver teaches Sunday School for children ages 6-10, is a regular speaker for Women's groups throughout the Midlands, and was awarded "Outstanding Woman of the Year" for Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.
Ms. Shiver has 2 wonderful sons. Dearold, her oldest, lives in Blythewood, and has earned many top recognitions as a machine operator at Amcor Ridge Plastics. His son, Christopher, is eight, and the love of Ms. Shiver's life. She and Christopher love to do artsy and educational activities together! Ms. Shiver's second son, Emmanuel, is a retired civil engineer from the U.S. Air Force. He served 10 years, deployed to Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Germany, Korea, Qatar, and Guam.
